Team Sorenstam finishes in fourth at the Major Champions Invitational

Updated: Dec 19, 2019

ANNIKA alumna Cory Lopez finished a come-from-behind victory with a final round 7-under-par 65. Her tournament total of 9-under-par 207 was two shots clear of runner-up Linn Grant, who lead the girl’s division after the first and second rounds.

The Major Champions Invitational was created by World Golf Hall of Fame member and six-time major champion Sir Nick Faldo. An extension of the Faldo series, the event provided major champions an opportunity to mentor and inspire the next generation of players while giving back to the game. The field featured 81 of the top amateurs in the world, including 21 ANNIKA alumnae.

Team Annika played some great golf today. Individually, both Amanda Linner and Jiayi Wang carded a 1-over-par 73 for the final round, moving both players up the leaderboard to finish T9.

17-year-old Elizabeth Wang of San Marino, Calif. shot her lowest score today at 2-under-par 70. Wang finished T23 for the tournament.

Team Annika entered the final round of MCI T4. After its low round 69 yesterday, they managed to continue their momentum and carded a final round 73. The team claimed solo fourth.

Congratulations to Team Dustin Johnson (Lauren Stephenson, Isabella Britt, Trent Phillips and Grayson Watnosky), Mexico’s Cory Lopez and Irishman Tom McKibbin on their respective victories!

A big thanks to Sir. Nick Faldo and Peter Jacobsen SPORTS for letting us be a part of this event!
