Lake Elmo, MN. – The sixth edition of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M concluded Wednesday with Wake Forest taking home the 2019 title in dominating fashion. In their ANNIKA debut, the Demon Deacons finished the 54-hole event at 17-under-par, with 2017 Intercollegiate champions Arkansas finishing second, 14 shots back.
18-year-old freshman Rachel Kuehn handled the final round with ease despite the windy conditions. Kuehn continued to increase her lead, winning the individual competition by five-strokes, with a final score of 13-under-par. Kuehn, who has been waiting to hit the collegiate stage with the Deacons for the past two years, said, in the end, it’s all about the team.
“I’ve been playing well since I got to college, obviously this exceeded my hopes and expectations. It’s really nice to come out and play well because it’s been a long time coming. Everything has lived up to the hype.”
Vivian Hou of Arizona moved up the leaderboard after a final round of 4-under-par, to place second and claim low-round honors on Wednesday.
Leading the Texas Longhorns to a third-place finish was junior Kaitlyn Papp, who also placed third after carding a 7-under-par total.
As with all Foundation initiatives, Annika was on-site taking in the final round action. “Congratulations to Wake Forest on their win. It was an impressive debut and we look forward to them returning next year.”
