Lily May Humphreys, a 17-year old English native, remains in the lead after round two of the ANNIKA Invitational Europe at Vasatorps Golf Club. After a first-round 69, Humphreys kept her spot atop the leaderboard, firing 5-under-par 68.
After starting the day with a one-stroke lead, Humphreys described her bogey-free round: “I played solid today. Bogey-free feels good. I didn’t hole too many putts but finished with three birdies in a row which was a nice feeling.”
The 8th ANNIKA Invitational Europe boasts a field featuring the best female junior golfers in Europe. The 79-player field represents 23 different countries and includes five of the top-100 girls in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. The champion will receive a Ladies European Tour exemption into the La Reserva de Sotogrande Invitational hosted by Annika as well as coveted PING Junior Solheim Cup points.
Matching Humphreys’ round of 68 is Denmark’s Anne Normann. Normann made big moves on day two, starting at one-under-par and ninth place. Her second round consisted of six birdies and one bogey to surge to the top of the leaderboard. She sits in solo second, three shots off the lead.
Lilas Pinthier, who sits in third, had an up and down round but was able to finish with a strong back nine, finishing at 5-under-par.
As with all ANNIKA Invitational events, the “More Than Golf” mantra is a big component, as players are treated to educational seminars and fun activities off the golf course. Following today’s play, competitors attended a college golf seminar as well as an info session on the PING Junior Solheim Cup with a surprise visit from past ANNIKA and Jr. Solheim Cup participants, Linn Grant and Maja Stark. Afterward, the players attended a tournament BBQ with Annika.
