The United States Golf Association has announced the eight players selected to play for Team USA in the 2018 Curtis Cup, to be played June 8-10 at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, N.Y.
UCLA’s Lilia Vu, ranked No. 1 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, tops the list. Vu has had quite the year so far, winning four out of seven college events she's played, and finishing top-six in the other three. She has been No.1 on Golfweek’s ANNIKA Award presented by 3M Watch List for the past three editions and is heading into the NCAA Regionals with obvious momentum. Vu played in the ANNIKA Invitational USA presented by Rolex twice before heading to college, and thereafter has competed in two ANNIKA Intercollegiate events.
Joining Vu is Bruin teammate, Mariel Galdiano. The Hawaii native has played in three ANNIKA Invitational USA’s and two ANNIKA Intercollegiate during her career.
Alabama’s Kristen Gillman will also join the team in New York. The 20-year-old played in the ANNIKA Invitational USA in 2016 before her freshman year at the University of Alabama. On the most recent ANNIKA Award Watch List published last week, the sophomore is ranked No. 9.
Frequent ANNIKA participant and alum Andrea Lee will also represent the United States this June. Lee, who is ranked No. 5 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, finished T3 in the 2017 ANNIKA Intercollegiate. She's also played in four ANNIKA Invitational’s, beginning in 2012. After winning her past three collegiate tournaments, she moved to third on the ANNIKA Award Watch List heading into the NCAA Regionals.
The youngest player named to the team is 2018 ANNIKA Invitational USA runner-up, Lucy Li. The 15-year-old has been ranked No. 1 on Rolex AJGA Rankings for 10-consecutive weeks. Her resume speaks for itself, highlighted by wins at the PING Invitational and Rolex Tournament of Champions last year. She most recently finished eighth in the ANA Junior Inspiration after winning the tournament in 2017.
Other ANNIKA alumnae scheduled to participate in the 2018 Curtis Cup are Sophia Schubert (2012-14 ANNIKA Invitational USA, 2017 ANNIKA Intercollegiate) and Lauren Stephenson (2013-15 ANNIKA Invitational USA). Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupcho will round out the United States team.
