Girls Invited to Submit Open Letters to Annika Telling Her What They Love About Golf for Chance to Attend Invitation-Only Events
(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The ANNIKA Foundation – golf Hall-of-Famer Annika Sorenstam’s charitable organization – will host invitation-only “Share My Passion” Girls Golf clinics this fall in Las Vegas and Naples, Fla.
In partnership with the Southern Nevada Golf Association, girls between the ages of six and 12 who live in the state are invited to write an open letter to Annika telling her why they love golf, and why other girls should learn how to play. Annika and her team will invite authors of the 40 most-compelling notes to attend a clinic headlined by the 10-time major champion and winner of 72 LPGA events. The support of Dan and Sallie Dutton and Joel and Kim Laub is also integral to making the event possible. It will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 at Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas.
On Sunday, Nov. 11, Annika and LPGA*USGA Girls Golf will host a second “Share My Passion” day at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Fla. Girls between the ages of eight and 13 residing in the United States are invited to submit letters for a chance to attend the clinic and receive a behind-the-scenes look at tournament preparation for the LPGA’s season-ending CME Group Tour Championship. Additional support for this event is being offered by IBERIABANK and Escalante Golf.
“I can’t wait to read the letters we receive for this fall’s events,” says Annika, who in 2001 became the only woman to date to break 60 in an LPGA tournament. “I’m continually amazed by the applications we receive; the love these young girls have for the game is truly inspiring and reminds me of how I felt about it at their age.”
Submissions for both clinics can be made here.
In 2019, Dick’s Sporting Goods will become a sponsor of the “Share My Passion” series, as part of the company’s Sports Matter initiative. Its involvement will be key to expanding the number of “Share My Passion” around the country.
The ANNIKA Foundation is devoted to growing the game of golf around the world. It annually hosts six girls-only invitational tournaments on five continents: the ANNIKA Invitational USA presented by Rolex, the ANNIKA Invitational Europe (Sweden), ANNIKA Invitational Mission Hills (China), the ANNIKA Invitational Latin America (Argentina) and, new for 2018, the ANNIKA Invitational Australasia (New Zealand). The Foundation also runs the ANNIKA Cup, ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M and bestows the prestigious ANNIKA Award presented by 3M to NCAA Division I’s best female golfer.
Since the inaugural Foundation tournament – the 2009 ANNIKA Invitational USA – 32 ANNIKA event alumnae have earned LPGA cards. Twenty-four alumnae competed in the 2018 ANA Inspiration.
