Second Annual ANNIKA Invitational on Tap in Early 2010

Reunion, Florida • February 12-15, 2010 – The second annual ANNIKA Invitational girls’ junior golf championship will be played on February 12-15 at the Reunion Resort in Orlando, Florida. Conducted in partnership between the ANNIKA Foundation and the American Junior Golf Association, the ANNIKA Invitational is a premier junior girls’ event that consists of a 54-hole stroke play event played at Reunion Resort, home of the ANNIKA Academy.

The girls-only field plays the par-72 Independence (Watson) Course at 6,450 yards. Last year, the 60-player field featured 17 Rolex Junior All-Americans and players from 17 states and 15 foreign countries.

2009 Annika Invitational Champion

In the inaugural event played in January 2009, Simin Feng, 13, of Orlando, dueled hefty wind conditions and stiff competition to become the first ANNIKA Invitational champion.

“It means a lot to win this tournament,” Simin said. “Annika is going to hand me the trophy and she has accomplished so much, it's such an honor.” Simin shot 72-75-73—220 to win by a single stroke.

“What makes this tournament so special for the girls,” commented Don Ochsenreiter, President of the ANNIKA Foundation, “is the level of interaction that Annika has with the players during all four days. Annika conducts both a golf clinic and professional development clinic for them, and generally hangs-out with them, teaching them whenever she can while they’re here.”

The first day of the event consists of a practice round and Junior-Amateur tournament, where adults are paired with a top junior in an 18-hole team competition. The three-day, 54-hole stroke play event follows, with several special events for the girls mixed-in each day.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The largest Association of its kind, the AJGA has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of more than 5,000 junior golfers from 50 states and more than 30 foreign countries.
